Description
M.A. thesis which investigates the dialectal intonation of a selected area in Lincolnshire (the extreme north of the Lindsey division), analysing intonational tunes of the living dialect of the area to discover its characteristic intonational patterns. The study is based on fieldwork tape recordings made in August and October 1958, and chapters present a theory of the intonational analysis, inhibited and uninhibited speech texts, tunes I-V as used by each of the six selected informants, grammatical categories of the intonation groups and the characteristic intonations of North Lincolnshire dialect.
