Description
A list of questions for Mozart's sister, Maria Anna Mozart, about her younger brother Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, complied by Vincent Novello in preparation for his and his wife's visit to her in the summer of 1829. Novello intended to write a biography of Mozart but the project was unrealised. The list includes questions about Mozart's childhood home, the development of his voice, how often he practiced as a child, his childhood character, the kinds of books he read, his travels, the music he played in public, his prefered arts aside from music, opinions of composers and his own compositions, likenesses made of him, his circle of friends and any other anecdotes about his life and work. Novello added a note on 24 July 1829 that she was too unwell for him to ask these questions on their first meeting in Salzburg and he intended to submit the questions to the Viennese composer Abbé Stadler to ask on his behalf. Originally found as part of Vincent's Novello's travel diaries for his trip across
Europe with his wife Mary Sabilla Novello in the summer of 1829.
