Biography or history
Joseph William Dunning was the only son of Joseph Dunning, a solicitor of Leeds. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge (BA 1856, MA 1859) and was President of the Union in 1856. In 1861 he was called to the Bar and subsequently edited several editions of Hayes and Jarman's 'Concise forms of wills'. Halkett and Laing's 'Dictionary of anonymous and pseudonymous English literature' attributes the authorship of 'A long vacation ramble in Norway and Sweden, by X and Y (two unknown quantities)' to John Willis Clark and Joseph William Dunning. The book was published in Cambridge in 1857 by Macmillan
