Description
Ten carved wooden needle supports from Teesdale (Durham), from the Whitehead Collection at the Castle Museum, York. The supports include a mahogany bladed support with octagonal haft lined with cow-horn; an ash bladed support; an oak support with fiddle base finish used for the suspension of a bottom crook, and square brass plate reinforcing the haft; a birch bladed support with all-over diamond pattern; a [?mahogany] support with floral motif; an oak support small enough to fit into a small pocket; a sycamore support with brass cap on the haft; a chestnut bladed support with rectangular panel to accommodate name, and brass cap on the haft; a mahogany bladed support with deep groove; and second oak support small enough to fit into a small pocket.
