Description
Five foot preoccupation sticks, wooden needle supports made from wooden clog soles, or carved into the shape of boots or shoes, from Teesdale (Durham), where they were widely dispersed. These needle supports are part of the Whitehead Collection at the Castle Museum, York, and include an oak stick carved into the shape of a leg and foot; a chestnut stick in the shape of a narrow shoe or clog sole; a beech stick initialled F.W., and carved into the shape of a booted leg, with brass tack heads representing the boot buttons; and two birch clog bases, one with a turned haft. Mounted on Photo File card with LAVC/PHO/P1347. With typed note.
