Description

Comprises an anonymous verse drama, perhaps for an amateur country-house production of around the 1730s or 1740s. Its characters include Sir James Lovesworth, Lord Alcidor, Theanor, Sir Charles, Colonel Dauntless, Wildish, Aspalia, Zelinda, and Ardelia. For the title of the play the author has appropriated the sub-title of William Congreve's novel 'Incognita'.

Written in a single clear, ungainly hand, possibly by the anonymous author. 4to, with contemporary marbled boards, somewhat damp-stained, with the first gathering detached, the hinges cracked, rubbed, and lacking the spine. Paginated 1-88, after the title-page listing the Dramatis Personae.
