The file contains research papers relating primarily to a presentation given by White at the Leeds Food Symposuim in 2008 and an article called 'Inventory of Walter Stanhope of Leeds, 1759'.
The file includes a typed transcript of the inventory made by White. There are her handwritten notes containing the history of the Stanhope family, recipes, menus and table layouts.
The file contains a poster advertising a talk by White about the meal served for Walter Stanhope junior's birthday entitled 'On Watty's Birthday'. There are notes for the talk which was given at the Leeds Food Symposium in 2008 and at other venues. The file also contains notes for a talk on the Spencer Stanhope Collection.
The file includes correspondence with Tom Jaine and a draft of the article. There is correspondence arranging talks at various venues.
The file contains notes from a book published in 1737 'The Whole Duty of a Woman'. There are labels with the names of different dishes and people written on them.
Biography or history
Walter Stanhope (1704-1759) was a Leeds based cloth merchant. He married Ann Spencer of Cannon Hall, Cawthorp, in 1748. They had one surviving child Walter (Watty). He changed his name to Spencer-Stanhope when he inherited Cannon Hall from his uncle, John Spencer.
