Description
Typed letter from Wray, Smith & Co. solicitors to Maurice de Sausmarez, discussing the legal proceedings against his wife Kate de Sausmarez (née Lyons) for a divorce on the grounds of desertion. The solicitor describes a discussion about their daugher Philippa de Saumarez's statement and mentions Maurice's 'matrimonial offences', but advises that it is unlikely his wife will defend. A draft petition by Mr. Syms is enclosed as a carbon copy for Maurice to check and sign. The petition notes that they were married in Chelsea, London, on 4 January 1940 and that his wife had left in around Janaury 1958 following around two years of difficulties. It continues to provide details of his hospitalisation in 1957 and its consquences for their marriage.
