Description
Items and correspondence from christian missionary Gypsy [Ernest Albert] Williams sent and sold to Dorothy Una Ratcliffe (DUR).
Items include 6 letters, 13 Williams' family photographs, 3 auto/biographical articles by/about Williams and 2 official prison letters with a prisoner’s letter to his parents.
Provenance
It is likely that this material was originally stored within the photograph album (BC MS Rom 1/4/1) inside an empty envelope glued to the back cover labelled, " Envelope containing correspondence between Mrs McGrigor Phillips and Gypsy Williams.1940" This appears to have been since re-boxed seperately, (probably by the University).
The box was labelled, " University of Leeds. Brotherton Collction. Correspondence between DUR and Gypsy Williams with photographs, letters and cuttings obtained from him. Romany Collection"
