Description

Biographical details of individuals identified or known to be Gypsies and Travellers [mainly in Yorkshire and the UK].

Details include, name, aliases, date of birth, date of death, source of information, family connections, locations where sited/travelling.

Sources of information include newspaper cuttings and references of individuals/families in literary works and published articles (e.g. Journal of the Gypsy Lore Society).

Biography or history

It is believed that Dawson compiled this index based mainly on information found in press cuttings [see related objects] and from the Journal of the Gypsy Lore Society. [As the press was mainly from the Yorkshire area - with some national press, it is likely that there is a focus on the North of England/UK]. It is possible that they were used as a resource for genealogical research [Dawson was President of the Romany Traveller Family History Society].

System of arrangement

Arranged alphabetically by surname.
