M.A. research dissertation comprising essays intended to show the general development of responsible interest in children's folklore since the late eighteenth century. The study assesses the importance and value of a number of individual contributions to this field of study, and describes in chronological order the work of Joseph Strutt, James Halliwell, Philip Gosse, Henry Bolton, Lady Alice Gomme, Edward Nicholson, Henry Bett, Leslie Daiken, Doreen Gullen, Norman Douglas, Iona Opie and Peter Opie.
