Description
Various papers relating to teacher training, education, conscientious objection and religion. Papers include war's brutality like descriptions of army ranks and POWs. Letters to Murray include ones from his son John during evacuation.
Biography or history
Murray, Albert Victor (d 1967). Born at Choppington, Northumberland. Educated at Magdalen College, Oxford, and Secretary to the Students' Christian Movement. Conscientious Objector during the First World War, exempted from military service on health grounds. During the Second World War, his son, John Murray (donor), was present at Leeds Grammar school when it was evacuated to Buckden in the Yorkshire Dales. Later Professor.
