Considerations on the nature, origin and institution of tithes and the laws and customs for collecting and enforcing the payment of them : shewing that the payment of tithes in kind is a relique of popish tyranny, not only iniquitous, oppressive and incompatible with the spirit of the British constitution, but also destructive to the ardour of agriculture and improvement : that it greatly contributes to the scarcity and dearness of all sorts of provisions, and by rendering the clergy obnoxious to the laity, is very prejudicial to the cause of religion : to which is added An alphabetical table of all things now tithable, and how paid : with some select and curious cases tried and determined by the House of Lords on different moduses, &c. which is recommended as an useful guide to all farmers and landholders : and also a correct table of all abbies, monasteries, &c. abolished in the reign of Hen. VIII : with a proposal to Parliament to abolish the whole Institution of tithes, and restore the farmers of England, to equal freedom with other subjects
