Typed transcript: original, dated 1837, at Brontë Parsonage Museum; date altered, probably correctly, to 1851 in Shakespeare Head Brontë, Letters, vol. 3, p.264, where it is said to have been enclosed, in a letter from Charlotte to Miss Nussey, dated 27 July 1851. ("Shirley" first published in 1849).
