Profile

Largely self-taught as a sculptor, I'Anson worked initially in a traditional manner, producing portrait heads and busts. He worked with Lynn Chadwick in the late 1950s and early 60s, and developed a welding technique which he called 'Direct Sculpture' (ie. the metal was shaped directly rather cast from a mould). He was a lecturer at Trinity and All Saints' Colleges, Leeds from 1968-1981. There is a Crucifix in the College's chapel, which was commissioned c.1971.
