Profile

John Hey (1734-1815) was a divine, born at Pudsey, near Leeds. He was ordained a priest by the Bishop of Ely in 1760 and was a fellow and tutor at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, between 1760-1779. He was elected as the first Norrisian professor of divinity at Cambridge in 1780, 1785 and 1790.

John Hey's brother was the Leeds surgeon William Hey (1736-1819). Hey died in St John's Wood on 17 March 1815, and was buried in St John's Chapel, St John's Wood.
