Profile

Christian Seidel was born in Daumitz (modern Daumitsch) in the German region of Thuringia in 1640.   His father, Abraham, was the Lutheran pastor there and his mother was Abraham’s second wife, Justina Haberland.  He attended school in Neustadt an der Orla and in Dresden before studying at the University of Altorf.

After graduating from Altorf, he spent some time working as a personal tutor for various noble families before going to Bockedra in 1670 to stand in for the pastor.  Very soon he was himself appointed as pastor there and he married the daughter of his predecessor (Christoph Beyer).  They had 10 children.

In 1692, he became pastor at Reinstädt and also served as assistant to the Superintendent at Neustadt.  He died in 1721
