Profile

The Distressed Gentlefolk's Aid Association is a national charity set up to help support people living in poverty. It was founded by the author Elizabeth Ann Finn (1825-1921) in 1897 and originally ran its base from her London home.

The charity went on to buy existing and open new care homes for the elderly across the UK from 1948, stemming from the shortage of provision directly after the Second World War. In 1999 it changed its name to the Elizabeth Finn Trust. The charity then set up Turn2Us in 2007; a new service to help people in financial hardship to access different forms of support. In 2015, all of the different strands of the charity were brought under the one name of Turn2Us. The charity continues to run a number of care homes under a subsidiary organisation called Elizabeth Finn Homes.
