Comprises the 1913 edition of 'The Romance of an Elderly Poet', by A.M. Broadley and Walter Jerrold, re-bound by Broadley and originally extra-illustrated with the original letters from Crabbe to Charter, verse, maps, watercolour views and portraits, together with correspondence relating to the publication of the 1913 edition, most of it addressed to A.M. Broadley.


The 2 quarto volumes are covered with blue cloth and bound in blue half-leather with gold-tooled lines and gilt lettering on the spines which reads: 'The Romance of/ an Elderly Poet/ a hitherto unknown Chapter/ in the Life of George Crabbe/ Revealed by his Ten Years'/ Correspondence with/ Elizabeth Charter 1815-1825/ by A.M. Broadley/ & Walter Jerrold/ [volume number]/ Extra Illustrated/ by the Addition of/ the Whole of the Original/ Letters and Many/ Portraits and Views/ A.M. Broadley/ MCMXIII'. There is blue marbling on the inside covers and endpapers of both volumes. The total of 96 letters have all been removed from the volumes and conserved in 2 archive boxes kept beside the volumes in which they were once held.
