Comprises 1 autograph letter from John Poyntz Spencer, Earl Spencer, to Lady Bessborough, undated (with a transcript), 2 autographs of George John Spencer, Earl Spencer, dated 8 January 1816 and 5 June 1818, 1 printed portrait of Robert Spencer, Earl of Sunderland, from an original picture by Carlo Maratti published 1 June 1803 by J. Scott, Strand, London, 1 printed portrait of George John Spencer, Earl Spencer, engraved by B. Holl from a painting by J.S. Copley, R.A., published by Fisher, Son & Co., London, 1835, 1 printed portrait of John Poyntz Spencer, Earl Spencer, published by Baily Bros. of London, 1862, from works by Joseph Brown and I.E. Mayall, another of him and his wife, Countess Spencer, extracted from 'The Illustrated London News' for 20 May 1882, and a press-cutting concerning 'The Spencers', tracing their history from their beginning in 1621 until Lord Althorp in early Victorian days.


The material was formerly bound into a volume containing also a transcript of the letter, which is now shelved in a separate author/alphabetical sequence following the main sequence of Miscellaneous Letters.
