Description

Comprises 1 autograph letter and stamped-addressed envelope from Bristol to Arthur Biddell dated 7 March 1855 (with a transcript), 1 printed engraving of a portrait of the Marquis painted by Sir Thomas Lawrence, and 3 press-cuttings concerning the Marquis's nobility, distinctions, and funeral arrangements dated Friday, 18 February and Friday, 25 February 1859, together with an engraving of Ickworth Building, his country seat.


The material was formerly bound into a volume containing also a transcript of the letter, which is now shelved in a separate author/alphabetical sequence following the main sequence of Miscellaneous Letters.

Biography or history

Frederick William Hervey, Marquis of Bristol (1769-1759), F.R.S., was Tory M.P. for Bury St. Edmund's from 1796-1803.
