Comprises 1 autograph letter from Boieldieu to an anonymous recipient referred to as 'Madame' on 25 January 1830, 1 manuscript translation of the letter into English, and 1 printed portrait of him with a caption in French.


The material was formerly bound into a volume containing also a typed biography of the author, which is now shelved in a separate author/alphabetical sequence following the main sequence of Miscellaneous Letters.

Biography or history

Francois Adrien Boieldieu (1775-1834) was a French musician and comic opera composer, known chiefly for his works 'Dame Blanche' and 'Calife de Bagdad'. For fuller details of his life and achievements see the biography of him included in the bound volume which once held this letter.
