Comprises 1 autograph letter from Baynton to [William H.] Booth dated 25 November [1919] (with a transcript), 2 black and white photographs of Baynton with 1 dated 24 March 1919, 1 black and white photograph of Gertrude Gilbert, 2 printed programmes for the Lyceum Theatre, Ipswich, dated 24 March 1919 and 24 November 1919, 3 press-cuttings concerning his Shakespearean acting dated 1922, and 1 press-cutting, alledgedly from the 'Evening Gazette for 27 September 1924', concerning his bereavement of his two brothers in a car accident in Birmingham.


The material was formerly bound into a volume containing also a transcript of the letter, which is now shelved in a separate author/alphabetical sequence following the main sequence of Miscellaneous Letters.

Biography or history

Henry Baynton (1892-1951), the actor, first went on stage in 1910 and in 1917 founded the Henry Baynton Shakespearean Company, which finally closed in 1930. Baynton was especially appreciated in the provinces.
