A handwritten translation of a Latin text detailing the geneology and the original authors life inlcuding during the 1665 Plague in London and The Fire of London 1666. The manuscript begins with an introduction by the translator explaining his reasons for attempting the translation as a way of "recovering what I have lost in the Roman Tounge"

The translation begins with a listing of the original authors immediate family, indicating his brothers and sisters and their dates of birth.

The manuscript appears to have been published by the Camden Society in 1852 and names the original author as William Taswell D. D. Rector of Newington Spa and St Mary Bermondsey, Surrey and the translator as his grandson Rev. Henry Taswell Vicar of Marden in Herefordshire in 1761. This manuscript appears to be the original translation by Henry Taswell.

The published title of the translation is Autobiography and Anecdotes by William Taswell D. D A.D 1651-1682 Edited by George Percy Elliott.

Biography or history

William Taswell (1 May 1652 – June 1731) was a parish priest who as a Westminster schoolboy witnessed the Great Fire of London in 1666. He was born at Cowes on the Isle of Wight. He served as rector of Swanton Novers, and of Wood Norton, Norfolk from 1692 to 1698 and of St. Mary Bermondsey from 1724 to 1727. In 1695, he married Frances, daughter of Edward Lake. He died on 17 or 22 June 1731.
