Description

A bag consisting of two stiff boards covered in synthetic black cloth with velcro fastenings. The front and back of the bag are machine embroidered with the ‘Pinto Aceh’ design in red, yellow and green, with a repeat border. Strap handles are also machine embroidered.

Pinto Aceh (literally Door of Aceh) is a common motif.

The Pinto Aceh motif is said to derive from an archway (still in existence) in Taman Sari Gunongan (literally ‘Mountain Essence Garden’), a pleasure garden erected by Sultan Iskandar Muda for the princesses of his court.
