Description
The collection comprises volumes of late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. There are twelve printed volumes and six manuscript. They include sacred and secular music, vocal and instrumental. The collection includes dedication copies and apparently unrecorded printings.

Biography or history
Sir George Armytage (1734-1783) the 3rd Baronet, was MP for York 1761-68 and High Sheriff of Yorkshire 1775-76. Sir George and his wife, Lady Anna (1736-1788) had six surviving children. George (1761-1836), the 4th Baronet, was a founder of the Halifax Music Festival (1796) and also loaned copies of oratorios and other music to the York Grand Musical Festival in 1823.

The collection was owned by the Armytage family of Kirklees Hall in Calderdale, West Yorkshire.
