Description

A framed painting on plaster, labelled:

"Seated figure of a goddess (Sekhet?), the head surmounted by a disc round which is twined the solar uraeus. Before her stands a figure with upraised arms, making an offering of food."

Pigment includes dark red, light blue and yellow. The goddess is seated on a throne and holds a staff and ankh. The top right of the painting shows 7 columns of hieroglyphs.

Wooden frame with a curved top and glazing.

Provenance

Presented by Mrs Blanche Leigh, December1939.

The original receipt from the seller to the donor described the piece as a stelae, and had thought the seated figure to be the one of the Paraohs Psamtik of the 26th dynasty.
