Documents include: Trade Marks Registry documents for the trademark 'Real Man' to Women's Aid, 2010; a list of male celebrities included in the campaign; a press release announcing the 'Real Man' pledge, 2011; a copy of the Home Office magazine 'Inside Track' featuring an article about the campaign, July/August 2011; campaign posters; and associated draft notes.
Biography or history
Women's Aid national campaign beginning in 2010, asking men and women to help to send out the message that 'Real Men' do not abuse and control women. The press campaign featured a range of high-profile men including Duncan Bannatyne, Will Young and Westlife. Celebrities and MPs, including Prime Minister David Cameron, Deputy PM Nick Clegg and Labour Leader Ed Miliband were asked to sign the 'Real Man' pledge to mark International Day Against Violence Against Women on 25 November 2011. The pledge, endorsed by the Home Office, could also be signed by the public, as well as the buying of merchandise including 'I'm a Real Man' t-shirts.
