Papers relating to the 1998 Women's Aid campaign 'Families Without Fear: the Women's Aid Agenda for Action on Domestic Violence'. Documents include: correspondence and working documents relating to the creation of a national strategy on violence against women, 1997-1998; publication material and report 'Families Without Fear: Women's Aid Agenda for Action on Domestic Violence: Recommendations for a National Strategy', 1998; comments on the campaign from MPs, government officials, councils, the police, probation services, women's groups and domestic violence forums, 1998; and drafts and working documents relating to 'Families Without Fear' for the Women's Aid National Conference, 1999.

Biography or history

Women's Aid campaign launched on 14 October 1998, to encourage the government to take positive action through recommendations to the government about action needed to tackle domestic violence, as part of an overall strategy on violence against women (based on the government's existing commitment to develop a national strategy on violence against women). The report 'Families Without Fear: Women's Aid Agenda for Action on Domestic Violence: Recommendations for a National Strategy' was written by Nicola Harwin, 1998. Based on draft produced for UN commission on status of women in October 1997.
