Description
Papers relating to the 2007 Women's Aid celebrity public awareness campaign 'ACT - until women and children are safe'. Documents include: information leaflets about the campaign; correspondence and invitations for the campaign launch reception at 11 Downing Street on 1 February 2007; and booklets and order of proceedings for benefit lunches for the campaign hosted by Women's Aid ambassadors Gordon and Tana Ramsay.
Biography or history
Women's Aid celebrity public awareness campaign launched at 11 Downing Street on 1 February 2007 by kind permission of Gordon Brown (Chancellor of the Exchequer) and Sarah Brown (Patron of Women's Aid since 2004). Photographer Rankin took head and shoulder portraits of a range of well-known female faces and each portrait showed the famous face made up to show a physical effect of domestic abuse. The aim of the campaign was to mainstream the issue of domestic violence and get people talking about it: 'A: Admit that abuse does take place. C: Call it by its name. T: Talk to someone.'
