Description
The catalogue comprises of an alphabetical thumb index at the beginning, arranged by the first letters of the authors' name, followed by the main body of the catalogue.
This main paginated section lists full information for the publications and manuscripts in item number order, with classmarks written in red ink. Items will also be noted as 'In Manuscript' if relevant. Items numbered 1-1859 are found on pp.2-232. Pages 233-399 are blank, then a further sequence of items numbered 1-494 can be found on pp.400-464. The final pp.465-748 are blank.
Bound in leather with blind tooling and embossed in gilt on the front cover with the words MEDICAL SCHOOL LIBRARY CATALOGUE and on the spine with the words LIBRARY CATALOGUE. The edges of the pages and the endpapers are marbled.
The volume contained as inserts various library housekeeping papers, dated between 1885 and 1887. These are now housed in a separate folder and include:
- a list of books issued from December 1885 - 1886 [showing the name of person borrowing the book, the date, and the title of the book]
- lists of books forwarded for binding, repairs etc, to the Leeds and West Riding Medico Chirurgical Society, dated 30 July 1885, 18 Feb 1886, 29 Jul 1886, and 1 Jul 1887.
- lists of books forward for binding and repairs, the Medical Department Yorkshire College, dated 30 July 1885, 29 July 1886, 21 April 1887.
- a list of names of those on the Board of the Medical Department of the Yorkshire College
- a list of books received since the last General Meeting of the Leeds and West Riding Medico Chirurgical Society, dated 1 May 1885, and May 1886.
- a list of books ordered by the Leeds and West Riding Medico-Chirurgical Society from Mr H Kimpton
- a list of books unaccounted for in the Library.
