Description

First edition of The grammar of ornament, a global and historical design sourcebook published by the English-born Welsh architect Owen Jones, one of the most influential design theorists of the 19th century.

The 100 chromolithographic plates were issued only once, in this large folio edition, printed from the original stones. Reprint editions are smaller in format, with less brilliant designs.

Added lithograph title page [frontispiece] in colours.

With contributions by J.B. Waring, J.O. Westwood, and M.D. Wyatt.
