Description
Documents relating specifically to Chiswick Women's Aid and it's founder Erin Pizzey. The Chiswick refuge was set up in 1972 and is often referred to as one of the first women's refuges to be opened. It played a key role in the starting of the Women's Aid movement. Documents in this series relate to some of the discussions and debates that occured in the 1970s and 80s as the Women's Aid movement was established, developed, and began to distance itself from Pizzey and the Chiswick refuge. Papers include collected newspaper cuttings, articles by and about Pizzey, Women's Aid media statements, media around Pizzey's book 'Prone to Violence'.
There is also reference to communication with the organisation 'LifeLine' and Janine Turner, author of 'A Crying Game'.
