Description

[Side 1] Jack talks about tax levied on smallholdings during war, recalls severe winter of 1947, comments no compensation for loss of sheep, describes elderly neighbour and family, memories of village school and childhood. [Side 2] Jack recalls buying first sheep, describes typical year in sheep farming, remembers hiring pair of horses out to neighbours for ploughing, discusses traditional implements and techniques used to 'pleach' [= intertwine branches of brushwood to form/repair hedge] hedge.
