Description
[Side 1] John reflects on changes in farming during his lifetime, recalls using horses to 'grub' [= harvest] potatoes and turnips and remembers cutting hay with horse-rake, discussses cost of tractors, compares traditional 'stooking' [= setting up sheaves of corn prior to stacking] and stacking with modern mechanised methods, talks about decline of thatched roofs locally and cost of maintenance, discusses housing stock in village. [Side 2] John describes local farmer, briefly mentions recent poor weather, talks about work as tailor, recalls buying Jedburgh tweed and selling wool to local mills.
