Description

[Side 1] Sid describes process of making steel, talks about role of melter, explains terms incl. 'fracture' [= sample of metal for analysis] and need to 'slag off' [= remove e.g. sulphur and phosphorous by smelting]. [Side 2] Sid describes process of refining, adding alloys, e.g. chrome or nickel prior to 'tapping' [= drawing off liquid metal], stresses importance of 'teemer' [= crane operator responsible for pouring molten steel], explains transfer of molten lead into 'ladle' [= mould] via 'lander' [= channel for conveying molten metal from furnace to mould].
