Description
[Side 1] Wilsey talks about religion in past, recalls going to Denby Dale Primitive Methodist Chapel to 'take pledge' [= to conform to rules of temperance movement], describes passionate singing and powerful sermon, reflects on strong presence of religion in past incl. regular parades through village singing 'We're Marching to Zion', recalls particularly inspiring young evangelist and influence of 'Ranters' [= non-conformist preachers], recalls occasion when he and classmate argued with visiting parson. [Side 2] Wilsey lists names of components used in manufacture of clogs incl. 'spokeshave' [= type of plane], lists local names for mining implements incl. 'corf' [= tub/basket used to carry coal from mine to surface], briefly talks about work as weaver from age 10 to 12, explains how to use handloom.
