Description

[Side 1] Thomas describes in detail how to make cartwheel, explains components, incl. 'nave' [= wooden block at centre of wheel to which spokes are attached and through which axle runs], spokes, 'felly' [= section of wooden rim], shoulders, 'hoop' [= iron rim round wheel] and 'bush' [= metal lining in which axle sits]. [Side 2] Thomas describes components of cart, incl. 'cod' [= axle bearing], 'limber' [= cart-shaft] and 'stay' [= cross-beam end], explains distinction between long-cart and 'coup-cart' [= tip-cart], comments only see 'muck-cart' [= dung-cart] now as most vehicles motorised and making traditional cart too expensive, recalls making barrows out of oak or ash.
