Description
[Side 1] Robert recalls schooldays in nearby Duddo, tells anecdote about old groom giving children lift to school, new groom refused so one day Robert and friends pelted his trap with stones, brief description of father's work as 'byreman' [= cowman] and pigman. [Side 2] Detailed description of slaughtering pig, feeding pig up, herd fixing day for slaughter, sticking pig with 'gully' [= knife], scalding, skinning, scraping, removing insides, preparing 'flake' [= flitch], women making potted meat.
Biography or history
Robert b. Ford, aged 70, school in Duddo, then farm worker.
Robert was not an informant asssociated with the Survey of English Dialects fieldwork in 1953.
