Description
[Side 1] Reg recites anecdote of Billy, a regular drinker, and his wife, Mary, hauling him out of bar and sending him home, describes how one Saturday night Billy nearly choked to death on fried tripe but was saved by neighbour, Mary keeps the tripe in cupboard to show visitors. [0:02:29] Reg tells anecdote of Joe, an atheist, and his death-bed conversion. [Side 2] Charlie recites 'The Three Spice Wives of Ovingham', childhood memories of Ovingham Village Fair, recalls three spice wives from Hexham selling spice-cake, sweets and toys, remembers 'Babes in the Wood' puppet show, describes local custom of 'riding the bounds' [= beating the bounds], recalls dancing on the green, Charlie recites the story of the little mouse and the old tom cat in Ovingham dialect.
