Description

[Side 1] Conversation between Haigh, his daughter and Herbert about recent weather, anecdotes about several local characters, including known bodysnatcher. [Side 2] Conversation between Haigh, his daughter and Herbert about local dialect, demonstration of local pronunciation of 'trough' and use of 'thou' in past, discussion about keeping pigs and custom of making 'bedlam' [= type of black pudding] from blood, suet, oatmeal and onions. Note: Recording date 1951-09 noted by ear, 1951-11-06 written on lacquer disc label.

Haigh b. Holme, aged 83, local school till aged 13, whole life in Holme; father b. Holme; mother b. Holme. unnamed female speaker, aged 60; father b. Holme, shepherd, gamekeeper & smallholder. Herbert, b. Holmfirth, aged 60.
