Description
[Side 1] Edward talks about local wildlife, explains difference between 'mouse-hunter' [= small weasel], stoat, weasel and vole, recalls first encounter with black vole when setting snares by dyke, talks about women being employed to pick stones from fields for halfpenny a 'bushel-skep' [= basket, hamper] in past, mentions rare local sighting of woodcock. [Side 2] Edward tells series of anecdotes incl. about forgetful old character who used to ride about on 'dicky' [= donkey] and occasionally 'sowl' [= to beat, thrash] it with 'crome' [= hook/crook] to urge it on, remembers being convinced farm was haunted as cattle were often loose and doors open despite knowing he had tethered them and shut gates, recalls playing prank on old farm worker by fitting 'tacks' [= handles] of scythe wrong way round.

Edward b. North Elmham, aged 74, local school till aged 10, whiole life in North Elmham except during WW1; father b. Brisley; mother b. Brisley; wife b. Mileham, domestic servant. Gladys b. Mileham aged 68, school at Mileham till aged 13; father b. Norfolk; mother b. Norfolk; husband b. North Elmham, farm worker, gamekeeper & smallholder.
