Description

[Side 1] Mr Hotchkiss talks about about making 'hay-bands' [= rope of twisted hay used to bind bundle of hay ] with 'band-twister' [= rope-twister], memories of harvest supper, improvement in wages after World War 1, Mrs Cook recalls 'leasing' [= gleaning corn left in field by reapers], reflections on living conditions in past. [Side 2] Mr Hotchkiss and Mrs. Cook recall threshing with 'threshel' [= flail] or 'swivel' [= flail], memories of annual hiring fairs (in Stretton in May), discuss agricultural contracts and wages. Note: Recording date 1952-07 noted by ear, 1952-12-01 written on lacquer disc label.
