Description

The collection comprises manuscript books containing diagrams, maps and auction reports compiled by the the Leeds firm of auctioneers, estate agents and surveyors Hollis and Webb.


Hollis and Webb valued properties such as Bramham Park and Temple Newsam. Hollis and Webb acted for interconnected Yorkshire families, notably the Meynell Ingrams at Temple Newsam and their successor the Earl of Halifax. They also valued Leeds Grand Theatre, Leeds Synagogue (Merrion Street) and Beckett Park as it was being brought into educational use.


The company valued several thousand businesses and private homes. There are records of valuations of more properties including houses condemned for being insanitary and properties due for nationalisation.
