Description

Many references to Yorkshire localities, e.g. Denton, Tadcaster, Otley, Kettlewell, York. As well as poetry there is much in prose, including recipes. References to writer's brother B. and sister S.


Written in a very faint ink, illegible in many places; two signatures. Gathered as a single quire. Written from both ends, and much written sideways. Written in black ink just above the other writing on f.1 is ? if one of Rev Joseph Hunter's MSS / yes; spine lettered HUN / TER / MSS in the same black ink. Bound in 'Middle Hill' light brown boards, characteristic of the collector Sir Thomas Phillipps; a spine label bears the number [Phillipps] 21466.

Biography or history

Henry Fairfax, 2nd son of the 4th Baron Fairfax, was in the employment of Lady Barwick, apparently the mother-in-law of the 4th Baron
