Description
Simple 19th century lithographed trade card (advertisement) of George Hastwell, advertising new premises in Market Place, Kendal. Trader details in a variety of typefaces with decorative initials. Manuscript pencil note regarding Thirlwall Castle on inside and reverse of folded sheet.
Transcription: MARKET PLACE, KENDAL. GEORGE HASTWELL, FROM LONDON, Begs to inform the Inhabitants of Kendal and the Neighbourhood that he has taken extensive premises in the Market Place, and purposes opening them in the course of next month, with a large and well selected stock of Cabinet Furniture, Bedsteads, Bedding, DAMASKS, CARPETS, PAPER HANGINGS, &c: G. H. having had many years' experience in the Furniture Trade in London, has the advantage of being able to buy in the best and cheapest markets, and he feels confident that he can supply any article, suitable either for the Mansion or the Cottage,at such Prices, as he trusts, will ensure him a share of public Patronages. March, 1861. WILSON, KENDAL.
