Description

Decorative 19th century chromolithographed trade card of H. de Potter, with trader details in ornate leafwork frame. Trader details in a variety of typefaces with decorative flourishes. Enamelled card or carte porcelaine with two tone coloured inks in pinks, purples and oranges. Remains of previous blue paper mount and glue present on reverse.


French transcription: H. DE POTTER, Peintre en Batimens. Rue dite kromme wal No 36, Pres le pont des Rois, BRUGES. Ayant travaillé dans un des premiers ateliers de Bruxelles a l'honneur d'informer le public qu'il vient de s'établir en celle Ville, et qu'il se charge d'entreprendre tout ce concerne son état. Il espère par son exactitude et la bonne execution de son travail mériter la confiance du public, dont tous ses effort a tendrout à s'en rendre digne. Gravée par De Lay De Muyttere Lith, Bruges.


English translation: H. DE POTTER, House Painter. No 36, Rue dite kromme wal. Near the Bridge of Kings, BRUGES. Having worked in one of the first workshops in Brussels he has the honor of informing the public that he has just established himself in the city [of Bruges], and that he is responsible for undertaking all that concerns his trade. He hopes by his accuracy and the good execution of his work to deserve the confidence of the public, of which all his efforts tend to make himself worthy. Engraved by De Lay De Muyttere, Bruges.
