Description
The material includes a map entitled 'British Front from Courcelette to Flers' which shows the approximate position of the British front lines around Eaucourt l'Abbaye on 26 September 1916. A second map labelled No.5 shows the British and German trenches in the area centred around Eaucourt l'Abbaye. The papers include 3 pages of instructions for 'Operaton Orders No. 60' marked 'secret' dated 8 October 1916. There is a timeline but it is undated. The material includes a menu from Poperinghe on 16 November 1916.
The material encompasses Leslie's war diary on fax paper. There is also a copy of the first two pages on paper.
The papers include a report from the Senior Officers' School on Leslie's character, capabilities and qualifications as an officer. There is a notice from the War Office dated 7 April 1919 exonerating Leslie from being captured in 1918. A newspaper cutting reports the appearance of a soccer ball from the Somme on a rubbish dump, possibly c.1980s.
