Description
1 letter to Herbert Read from David Sylvester with a carbon copy of Read's response.
Sylvester is writing to Read to let him know a 'list of factual errors' that have appeared in a book that he does not name, but which seem to have exasperated Read.
Sylvester also responds to a previous letter from Read in which he has asked 'what I had meant when I criticized you [Read] for being preoccupied with worldly success.' Sylvester writes: 'Nowadays one sees so many artists being spoilt by success - some as people (like Ken Armitage), some as artists (like Henry [Moore?] for a time) - that it is depressing to find it all being welcomed by someone who in the past has been as eloquently sceptical as you about the value to art of the art world.'
