Squirru first writes to Read in 1959, when he was Director of the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He writes after reading Read's The Tenth Muse, to discuss the relation of art to morality. This discussion is continued over several letters.
In a later letter Squirru advises that he has been made Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs, for which Read congratulates him. An copy of an address by Squirru in this position on the subject of Intellectual Responsibility of Specialists on Latin America is included in the file.
